# Real-World Gaming Disasters (That Blockchain Prevents)

#### **Case 1: The Duplication Exploit**

In 20023, Runescape, a popular MMORPG suffered a glitch that allowed rare items to be duplicated. Within hours, items worth thousands of dollars became worthless. The in-game economy never fully recovered.

**With blockchain:** Cryptographic scarcity makes duplication impossible—each item's uniqueness is mathematically guaranteed.

**Case 2: The Server Shutdown**

When a beloved game studio went bankrupt, their servers shut down permanently. Millions of players lost years of collected items and progress overnight.

**With blockchain:** Items exist independently of game servers—even if the game shuts down, you still own your assets and could potentially use them elsewhere.

**Case 3: The Banned Account**

A player with thousands of dollars in skins was banned due to an automated moderation error. Despite proving their innocence, they never recovered their items.

**With blockchain:** True ownership means items are in your wallet, not held hostage by a centralized authority.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://hub.bsvblockchain.org/higher-learning/bsv-academy/introduction-to-blockchain-technology/blockchain-applications-around-the-world/real-world-gaming-disasters-that-blockchain-prevents.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
