# 4. Network Effects

**Blockchain's value increases with network size.** The company that onboards 100 suppliers first has a stickier ecosystem than competitors starting from zero.

Once suppliers integrate with your blockchain network:

* Switching costs are high (new integrations, new training)
* Data network effects create lock-in (shared history has value)
* Multi-homing is expensive (suppliers resist participating in multiple networks)

**Months 0-6 (Early Pilot):** Technical validation, initial supplier onboarding, proof of concept → Advantage: Market perception, learning begins

**Months 6-12 (Production Rollout):** Scaling to 20-50 partners, process optimization → Advantage: Cost savings, network effects begin

**Months 12-18 (Full Production):** 100+ partners, full operational integration → Advantage: Dominant network, competitive moat, 30-40% cost savings vs. competitors starting now

**Months 18-24 (Market Leadership):** Industry standard-setting, brand leadership → Advantage: Competitors spend to catch up, early adopters optimize
